Crime Causation and Diversion Paper

The constant presence of the juvenile crimes in the United States requires the intervention for enabling the decrease of the crimes completed by the youth. Therefore, the system addresses the various programs that mainly suppose to prevent the crimes using various tools. Mainly, these programs involve the human resources that are supposed to change the environment and affect: parents, neighbors, educators, social workers, and families for influencing the youth and prevent crimes.

According to the existing theories, there are different crime causations. Sociological theories define the importance of the social learning and groups that juvenile belong. Social learning theory is the way of that an individual may associate himself or herself to others. Strain theory supposes the importance of the stress that may trigger the deviant behavior: steal for getting money. Control theory appeals to the idea how to strain the juvenile from the crimes. However, the learning and strain theories are most applicable to the youth because of their adaptation to the social norms. Also, the system defines the deviant behavior as one of the main reasons of the juvenile crimes: the programs are supposed to deal with the antisocial habits of the youth. The involvement of the prevention programs may help to address the possible changes in the behavior and future offenses. At the same time, this type of the programs enables the changes in the society in general through dealing with the various aspects of children’s life (Zagar et al., 2009). Therefore, there is the affect on the juvenile through their environment for reaching the positive changes in their behavior.

The main goals and beliefs of such programs appeal to the need for dealing with the possible risks that may lead to the crimes among the youth basing on the social theories. They aim at changing the environment for influencing the youth. As a result, they believe that the increase of the education and knowledge of the adults may influence the behavior of the youth. Also, they try to increase the sensitivity among the police workers to the youth and prevent the potential dangers posed by the youth. At the same time, this type of the interaction requires the sound changes in the youth behavior including their sound self-identification. As far as the deviant behavior may be the result of the socioeconomic issue, the general lack of the supervision, the low level of intelligence, the interfere is generally required for the whole family and nearest neighborhood (Zigler et al., 1992). Home visitation programs and Head Start are programs that address families’ needs due to their social and economic peculiarities, risk factors that may lead to delinquent behavior. They both help to define the problem and evaluate the risks of the crimes. However, none of the program may guarantee that the addressed problems and their solution may prevent the juvenile crime that also the psychological peculiarities.
