Criminal Justice Agency; Group Behavior and Organization Trends
Group Behavior and Processes in a Criminal Justice Agency
Socialization is a natural process that we learn from our infancy. We learn social rules, and appropriate behaviors from those we spend most of our time with. The socialization process is later extended to the social institution such as schools, churches, and the final learning step takes place in our careers, where most people are at their prime and spend a greater part of their lives (Klofas, 2015). During the career stage, it`s here where it all gets murky. For one to be considered as a success in any career, one is often required to adhere and meet the demands of bosses and coworkers, which often are in conflict with the rule of law.
A career in the criminal justice offers a great deal of autonomy and power. Both the law and ethical standards obligate those holding any public office, including the criminal justice department, to practice their duties within the scope of the legal authority. However, criminal justice executives have a hard time ensuring that their practitioners offer their services by the rule of law and within ethical boundaries. The most common failures associated with the criminal justice officer are nonfeasance; failure to act under an obligation, misfeasance; wrongful/injurious performance and malfeasance; wrongful conduct (Kania & Davis, 2014).
A good criminal justice manager must always anticipate the occurrence of the above ethical failure at all times. While the errors may be minimized, reduced or mitigated, a prudent justice manager must always be prepared for these misdoings to recur (Kania & Davis, 2014). Sometimes members of different racial or ethnic groups engage in activities that clash with the law of the land. This makes it extremely hard for justice managers to create a balance between the law and the customs of the groups involved. For this reason, a good criminal manager will always stay ahead of the conflict, anticipate reasonable, lawful demands of the parties involved by hiring effective mediators and proving cooperation programs.
Criminal Justice Organizational Trends
For the past few decades, the criminal justice agencies have experienced rapid change in different sectors. During the change, we have witnessed weighty changes in the sentencing model, program design, philosophy of correction, and the introduction of information technologies and the privatization of the criminal justice organizations. In the criminal justice system, extreme care is required to uphold the dignity of the system in the decision-making routine. Most of the criminal justice managers face a grueling test to grow and nurture new skills in managing the introduction of new concepts, producers, and programs (Jewkes, Crewe, & Bennett, 2016).
One of the key organizational trends is the privatization of the criminal justice system. The system was put in place to emphasis on crime prevention with the use of minimal force. However, the strategies have changed, and the privatization motive has changed from that of crime prevention to fighting crime. As an …
