Critical Thinking Analysis
Critical analysis is a form of intelligent criticism that enables people to reach an independent and justifiable conclusion about experiences. Process questions refer to questions that require some deeper thought and analysis. Such questions also require sharing of insights and opinions. An example of a process question is ‘what is your company’s competitive advantage?’ Psychologists assert and defend demonstrating a high level of confidence without being aggressive. On the other hand, they defend themselves through active communication. Active communication allows psychologists to defend their personal boundaries thus preventing abusive people from manipulating them through fear. The issue of working from opinion solely refers to the independence of psychologists. It happens when they use their own judgment to make decisions without external interference.
An argument is a claim that can be supported by other claims. However, there is a difference between an argument and an opinion. An argument has evidence to support claims whereas an opinion does not require evidence for support. A perfect example of ‘argument from opinion’ is ‘OMO can clean all stains with a single whitewash’ and ‘The United States became a superpower after defeating the USSR’. In the first example, the statement is not supported by any evidence. Advertisers often tell consumers that OMO can clean clothes and remove stains with a single wash but there is no proof of the product recording such an achievement. Consumers are less likely to believe in such a statement because there is no proof. On the other hand, it is true that the United States became the superpower after defeating USS. At that time, the USSR was the superpower and their defeat meant that they were no longer the superpower (Jales, Vincente and Rui, 89). I selected the two examples because they are easy to understand and best explain the difference between facts and opinions.
