Enhancing skills of international employment facilitates better job planning and equips an individual with the skills needed to meet the international employer’s expectations on performance. Employers can assign job responsibilities and duties efficiently, knowing that they have required skills to do the work. Enhancing employability skills not only helps employees secure international employment but also prepares them for subsequent promote and career development within the organization. Throughout the course and the event, I have learnt a number of ways through I can enhance their skills for international development. These ways are discussed as follows;
Proper academic qualifications
Developing a skill is a learning process; coursework provides for this learning process. Completion of the coursework grants students appropriate academic qualifications. Course essays, dissertations and projects are particularly significant. The skills required to carry out a research, planning and then organizing work are also significant. According to Aithal et al., (2015), coursework helps enhance certain skills which are necessary for all types of employment, including international employment. First, it develops analytical skills, which improve a person’s ability to debate as well as argue out an interpretation of complex material. Second, it develops written communication, which improves a person’s ability to express him or herself clearly through precise language. It also improves the ability to construct logical arguments and write reports. Third, it develops verbal communication, which improves a person’s ability to discuss and debate, express him or herself confidently and clearly and also think fast. Forth, it develops investigating skills, which enable a person gather materials for a research, compare the information sources and select information from them to support the argument or thesis. Fifth, it develops numeracy skills. Numeracy skills include the ability to interpret and construct statistics, analyze data and present it. Sixth, it develops planning and organization skills. These skills improve one’s ability to manage large workload at work simultaneously and balance work with other employment responsibilities. Other skills developed through coursework include team work, ability to use information technology and technical skills (Aithal et al., 2015). Team work is very significant for all workplaces, especially for international companies. An employee being sought out for an international job should be able to effectively work on group projects and various tasks with other teams in different locations. All organizations have integrated information technology into their organizational culture. Information technology skills acquired through coursework are important for international employee. A potential employee should demonstrate his or her ability to use the Internet for research and communication purposes, enter data into spreadsheet and prepare reports. Other information technology skills such as programming and web design are also considered an advantage (Vivarelli, 2014). For technical jobs, employees who have the required technical skills are more likely to be hired.
