Healthcare Data Globalization
There has been a growing concern about the privacy and security of electric information that are under general categories. There are two and these are inappropriate release of information that come from individual organizations and proper flow of information in the health care and industries linked to it. The focus of this research will be on the challenges of transmitting data in healthcare within the United States or without it.
The consequences of sharing data and making mosaics are difficult. A lot of problems are very logistical. It could be that a database manager might have to equalize the required protection of a data set by giving access to it. The modern information systems might have to design it carefully so that inappropriate access can be prevented and no amount of data will be acquired. This can still pave the way for it to be beneficial to information sharing. Although, additional basic concerns on the way information is tackled also come with storing and controlling information in a digital format (Lynch, 1994).
The REAL ID Act that was passed by the congress in 2005 showed the 9/11 recommendation of commissions that standards were set by the Federal Government for issuing identification sources. The Act did minimum security standards for the driver’s license issued by the state and identification cards stop Federal agencies from getting purposes licenses and ID that are below standards. The United States progressed in acquiring the main recommendation of 9/11 commission and each state has a secure driver’s license now than before the Act was passed.
In 2015, a lot of federal facilities will ask for a “Real ID” where people need to give a proof of identification and some states do not follow this Act. A mandate to enhance the driver’s licenses raised questions about people’s capability to gain access to federal buildings and ride commercial aircraft.
National ID cards are already supported to improve national security, reveal potential terrorists and give protection against illegal settlers. A lot of countries around the world use national ID cards. The different types of cards, their uses, and privacy protection differ on a wide spectrum.
It was the Clinton Administration that supported the “Health Security Card” back in 1933 and made sure that the card issued to all Americans would give full protection on their privacy and confidentiality (Epic.org, 2016).
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) is a legislation of the United States that offers data privacy of medical information. This Act is best applied when electronic health records kept in organizations are susceptible to inside or outside agents that want to violate their security and confidentiality policies (The National Academies Press, 2001).
