Interview Guide and Question Evaluation
Timely planning of questions for interview is a key part of an interview process. It is recommended that an interviewer should wisely and in advance select the criteria for better answers. Well-designed questions enable the interviewer to get information from the interviewee so as to help the hiring manager determining the person to be selected for the position. The three types of questions for an interviewee should be behavior based, hypothetical and technical. The hiring manager can get assistance from the human resource manager in choosing appropriate types of questions (Interview, 2004). I would like to work for telecommunication industry.
Behavior-based questioning entails challenging interviewees to mention cases of how they have previously managed to deal with some demanding situations. Because a past behavior can be used in predicting the later behavior, questions on primary behaviors can be used in making a concrete judgement of the interviewee (Hoevemeyer, 2006). The following the the questions under behavior-based questioning:
Can you mention the steps you have taken in enhancing the diversity of the work force at any environment you have worked before?
Can you mention to us about a situation where you have adapted your style so as to work effectively with people of different styles from yours?
Can you describe the most stressful moment in your past working environments?
How do you do you cope up with many priorities or assignments?
Which relationship has unsuccessful at your work place?
And how did you manage to make it better?
On the other hand, hypothetical questioning is used in evaluating the mind of an interviewee. They are asked to evaluate a candidate’s thinking processes and creativity as well. Examples include the following questions:
What would you perform first in the event that you are hired for this job? Our company is reorganizing itself and many of our workers are against this.
How would you handle the affected workers?
What do you understand about “open door” policy?
What is your take on it?
What issues do you think should be handled by a manager?
How do you lead the support staff?
Finally, technical questioning help in determining a candidate’s understanding or knowledge of a task on the technical phases of the position. These are the hardest questions to draft as they have specific answers. Examples include the following:
Can you explain the analysis processes?
Can you illustrate the processes involving posting of information to a website?
At what point is it desirable to denormalize database design?
The questioning method on a candidate is equally important since it impacts on the final performance of a candidate in the interview. Interviewees are endowed with many styles of learning.
