Management Information Systems: Counterintuitive Nature of Zara’s Model

Zara does not depend on guesses and anticipation to determine the kind of fashion people will demand in the near future. The company produces what it is confident that the market wants, based on research. It understands the value of acknowledging what consumers want. It uses intelligence gathering techniques to tell what customers want in an accurate way. Once they are sure of what people want, they are quick to manufacture it and put it in the stores. This makes their retail stores stocked with what consumers want in a duration twelve times shorter than their rivals. Inaccurate anticipation, an intuitive method, used by most of Zara’s competitors might be misleading. In case of such an instance, the rival companies might stock too much of fashion-ware that consumers are not interested. This is an unfavorable situation for any business.

Most Significant Long-term Threats to Netflix

The biggest fear of the company is the changing technology. While Netflix had managed to sell movies using DVDs ordered through the mail, Hasting’s (the company’s CEO) was keen to note that time for such services was drastically ending. The internet would bring in a new challenge. Time for direct streaming had already ushered in. The business had no choice but to adapt to the changes. However, Hasting admitted that the biggest threat is to adjust to the ever-changing technology without jeopardizing the enterprise's current performance. Overcoming this problem was not easy as most consumers do not adapt to the changes quickly. Evidently, the immediate setback after introducing changes deterred the company’s performance. Rising the company’s performance to its past glory while using the promising future in online streaming remains a challenge. Highly competitive rivals have emerged. These companies offer competitive incentives, leaving all the firms at an almost equal chance to win any customer.

Never the less, Netflix has the best movie collection. They range from Marvel to Indie (hardly known but very exciting). Netflix has a great selection of original series that are award winning, such as House of Cards.

On the other side, Hulu Plus updates its content much faster, compared to Netflix. Blockbuster updates its content quite often, but it is limited as it is not accessible on Apple electronics, save for their computers. The main setback when using Blockbuster is their pay per view operations model. It limits the flexibility of its services. In the overall, even though Hulu Plus offers several advantages over Netflix, the best offer remains with Netflix. Blockbuster, has been trying to outdo Netflix but it remains a few steps behind.
