Music In The Baroque
Music has always been one of the most popular forms of reflecting peoples’ thoughts, anxieties, feelings and desires. But at the same time it is a special form of art. As we know, every kind of art has to be in accordance with different rules. So the question arises: is following the rules more important than pure reflection of human life?
On the one side, a composer should think how to express people’s feelings by means of music. It is very important. If music does not reflect the things that people want to think about, if it does not touch person’s heart, it cannot be called “art”.
On the other side, simple expression of emotions is not enough. There are some general rules to be followed. This is what Johann Sebastian Bach thought. He said that everything has to have its place and time in music. Knowing the principles of writing music could help a composer to make it sound deeper and more touching. It is more enjoyable to listen to accords that are put together wonderfully. Such music can be very complicated and at the same time it is easy to listen to.
Bach also emphasized the importance of having musical education to create music. Of course, one may write music without knowing main principles of doing it. What is more, Beethoven created amazing pieces of music being completely deaf. But one may agree that without knowing the alphabet you cannot read a book. The same is with music. If a person does not know basic rules, they bind down themselves in creating the music.
