Peer Interview Assignment
Part 1
a) My ethnic identity is Mexican and my linguistic identity is Welsh. I consider strong ethnic identity to be beneficial because it helps to connect experiences. However, on the individual level having a strong ethnic identity in a country where people have another ethnic identity can impact the ability to achieve considerable results in studying because of prejudice (Toomey et al, 2013). When it comes to linguistic identity, I believe that the loss of a linguistic identity in a foreign country has more advantages than drawbacks. That is because when you change your linguistic identity it becomes much easier to understand another culture, become a fully functioned part of it, and avoid prejudice.
b) As I live in the United States, I do not feel that I really fit in with my ethnic group. Moreover, I feel that I do not fit in with any of the other ethnic groups. This allows me to be flexible and feel comfortable in any situation.
c) I think that the most important things about my ethnic identity are the food and the tradition to have big families. The food plays a very important role in the culture of Mexico as it helps to unite the members of big families. My big family and traditional food are what I really like about my ethnic identity.
d) I think that every ethnicity contributes to the global cultural development. That is why there is nothing I dislike about my ethnic identity as it is an important part of the society.
e) The main advantage of belonging to Mexican ethnic identity is to understand the important role that family plays in the process of the development of individuals. The main disadvantage, however, is it considered as a stigmatized group.

This is why she offers a supervisor to use simple words and avoid talking too fast.
Cultural Assumptions Regarding Supervision
The role of a supervisor is to provide support and guidelines. It is possible to question something a supervisor says as it helps to improve communication. A good supervisor helps to avoid the feeling of being less valued because of a particular cultural heritage by providing support and ensuring equality. Gender influences the openness and affiliation she experiences in supervision while age does not affect her experience with supervision.
