Philosophy of Supervision
Supervision is part of a job description and its presence is necessary for employees to complete work successfully. Supervisors should have an implementable plan to use while working to ensure that work is
completed and have accomplished other necessary roles. The aim of planning is to allow supervisors to succeed overseeing everything that matters and provide the expected results to stakeholders or management. Supervisors as facilitators provide guidance that enables the employees to manage their jobs (Caruso and Fawcett, 2007). Supervisors must display sensitivity to gender differences and must be willing to help without being intrusive.
Supervisors can act like sponsors by assisting the employee to gain access to resources and opportunities for their areas of expertise. To be an active supervisor one needs to be confident because the worst thing to do as a supervisor is to doubt one's abilities. Supervisors need to recognize that they will make mistakes along the way, but that does not mean they are not good leaders. Leading by example is an invaluable trait for supervisors because if one is hard working, committed and ethical, all the supervised employees are likely to be that way too (Caruso and Fawcett, 2007). As a supervisor, one has to be friendly and professional and to respect supervisees so as to earn their respect in return. A supervisor has to accept change by adopting approaches that only
enhance attainment of set goals and keeping supervisees efforts channeled to a specific goal.
By virtue of being a supervisor, on could work with employees who have been in an organization longer than him or her. This aspect could create resistance to change, especially among the supervisees who have been
in the institution or organization longer than the supervisor and do not see the need for supervision. A supervisor needs to understand the educational qualifications and experiences of the supervisees so that when
