Pro Gun Control
Imagine, for a minute, our future. The tomorrow of our children. Are we willing to see it full of blood streaming from the outrageous confrontations on the streets of NY, LA or Sacramento? The homicide rates are directly related to the policy regarding the gun control. The countries that have yet legalized the gun ownership experience decreased crime rates compared with the ones that have approved this policy. The owning if the
gun is crucial for one’s security. However, what is about the wider context? What is about the helpless members of the society such as children, older people, disabled people etc. They cannot give a proper response to the person with the gun in his hand. More than that, frequently, the use of the gun is perceived as the method for dealing with the conflicts when it is not actually an appropriate tool. A gun in the drawer and the legalized ability to use it discourages the person to look for the alternatives to the conflict resolution. Once the conflict arises,
the gun appears. Thus, the decreased gun control will mean the increased homicide rate.
The numbers tell for themselves. Years ago Australia faced the same dilemma regarding the gun control. The situation was resolved due to the tragedy that had led to the murdering of thirty-five people on the streets
of this peaceful country (Bovy). In of the activists of the pro-gun control the Prime Minister John Howard took a proactive position in this issue and eventually the law providing for destroying of the owned guns as passed.
The results were overwhelming. The rate of the gun-caused homicides has decreased twice (Walsh). At the same time, the percentage of the non-gun violence and crimes has not grown. That means that people have not turned to use the knives or machetes to hit others. They simply stopped to employ the guns to kill each other.
Three more facts to support the pro-gun policies. First, the greatest massacres in the history of humanity have been committed with help of the legalized guns. More than a third out of 70 shootings occurring within the
territory of the USA over the course of the last 30 years have been realized by the killers who have legally acquired the guns (Morris). The pro-gun control laws will help to decrease the number of the psychopathic
attacks and make the streets of the USA safer for the each American. The tragedy of the Sandy Hook Elementary School forces more mothers to reconsider the safety issues in relation to the future of their children.
