Public Law Enforcement Profession Discussion
The selected agency is the Public Law Enforcement Profession. It is characterized by the supervisory, leadership, and management settings (HB Leadership 90). The leaderships styles that are best associated with
the leadership and supervisory and management this selected profession include the top down management and collaborative leadership. The two are the most suited as they make it possible for the leaders to spearhead the affairs of the profession with effectiveness (Sawhney and Allen 239). Of the two types of leadership, I prefer the collaborative type of leadership in view of the fact that it promotes participation from both the managers and employees.
Usually, employees feel motivated towards achieving the objectives of a given institution if they are part of the management. It is for this reason that I find the leadership model to be the most effective in the public law enforcement agency profession. Similarly, law enforcement is an affair that centrally involves the public and denying the people the opportunity to be involved is unfair.
On the other hand, the theories associated with the profession include Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and the participative theory respectively (HB Leadership 89). From the theoretical purview, the participative theory is the most efficient since it sets an adequate pace for development within a given institution.
According to Hersey and Blanchard, it is justifiable to state that there is a best style of leadership (Sawhney and Allen 60). As for the correctional officers, they need to use the participative theory in their mandates when they lead and interact with inmates (Sawhney and Allen 203).
