Sustainable Development Goals In Latin America's Poorest Countries

This paper is devoted to the problem for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Latin America and the Caribbean Region and will examine the different issues that are facing the region and how SDGs will benefit the region. In particular, it analyzes the first goals of ending poverty in all forms everywhere, and applies for the poorest countries of Latin America’s region, namely Bolivia and Paraguay. By approaching this topic, I pursued several professional purposes. First of all, I believe it will help me to adequately prepare to meet my personal goals of understanding SDGs and thus better comprehend the economic and social situation of this region. Second, by applying this framework for particular economies, I seek to evaluate the appropriateness of the initiative overall, and whether it is possible to reach the targets of one goal under the current condition of chosen economy. Since I find the topic of development to be so intriguing, I am looking to pursue further education on the subject and obtain a Master’s degree. Analyzing the subject from both theoretical and applied perspective would help me to build a strong foundation to continue my educational journey in this captivating subject. In the first part, I primarily refer to the report released by the United Nation titled ‘Sustainable Development in Latin America’ that approaches the subject of SDGs in multiple perspectives and critically examines the implementation of MDGs and how SDGs will tackle the issues that MDGs never addressed. In the second part, I critically examine country profiles of Bolivia and Paraguay and define areas which, in my consideration, were the most influential for reviewing from the perspective of poverty eradication, as well as provide a brief overview of efforts taken in this direction.

I also propose some potential approaches required from governments to execute in the nearest time so that the reviewed SDG’s targets and milestones are met, including financing and the role of private sector utilization for these economies. I conclude with complex recommendations based on the reviewed sources, and how they could be best leveraged in Bolivian and Paraguayan case.Summary of the Issues AddressedBackgroundCountries of the Caribbean and Latin America have achieved international leadership, political stability and socio-economic progress, and are now at a historic juncture. The region advocates for the adoption of a single new agenda that is universal and irreversible. An agenda that will be based on sustainable development with equality.Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) laid the ground for SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).
