2.0 Literature Review
This Literature Review Is Intended To Address The Areas Covered In This Research, Namely, Pedagogical Affordances, Learning With Technology, The Emergence Of Blogging As A New Pedagogical Tool Which Enables Collaboration, Creativity, And Reflection; And Determining How Blogs Inspire Creativity In The Classroom.
2.1 What Are Pedagogical Affordances?
Pedagogical Approaches Have Always Reflected The Arguments And Limitations Of The Environment In Which They Were Situated. According To Putnam (2006), Affordances Of Technology Can Be Broadly Defined As “The Ways In Which Technology Offers Or Supports Certain Things,” Specifically To Teaching And Learning. Putnam (2006) Identified Four Key “Affordances Of Technology” Which Focus On The Ways Technology Supports Teaching And Learning In Any Area.
Learners Also Lacked Appropriate Skills To Create Online Frameworks For Collaborative, Learner-Led Work" (Hargittai, Et Al. 2010). While Technology Can Support Student-Centred Learning, Technology Alone, It Is Not Likely To Transform Traditional Learning Environments Into Student-Centred Ones (Moeller& Reitzes, 2011). Therefore In This Study Teachers Will Be Observed In Classroom Settings To Find Out If They Are Integrating Technology To Facilitate Collaboration And Cooperation Among Students And To Know How And Why They Use Technology In Meaningful Ways In The Learning Process For Technology Integration To Work.
2.2 Translation: Emergent Technology And Pedagogical Tool
The Educational Theory Of Vygotsky (1978) Stresses The Fundamental Role Of Social Interaction In The Construction Of Knowledge Which Is Digressive, Interpersonal And Conversational In Nature. Moreover, As Students Collate And Convert Knowledge, They Must Have Opportunities To Publish Their Knowledge In Authentic Environments Such As Blogs. By Publishing Work (As In The Case Of Blogs) Students Can Re-Examine It, Make Revisions, And Maximize Learning Through Critical Reflection (Ferdig & Trammell, 2004).
Blogs Have Captured The Interest And The Imagination Of Both Educators And Educational Researchers. Blogs Are New Content Development And Management Technologies That Enable An Interactive And Interpretive Engagement Amongst Students And Between Students And Teachers (Duff &Bruns, 2006; O’Donnell, 2006). Blogs Are Being Used In Primary Education (Davis 2006, Tse Et Al. 2010), Secondary Education (Angelaina & Jimoyiannis 2009) And In Higher Education (Kerawalla Et Al. 2009, Tan Et Al. 2010). Teachers Are Also Using Blogs For Professional Development (Luehmann & Tinellim 2008). The High Activity In The Educational Use Of Blogs Is Exemplified At ‘Edublog, ’ And This Use Is Increasing. Although Edublog Has Been In Operation Since 2005 And Hosted Only About 300,000 Blogs In 2009 (Muwanga-Zake, Et Al. 2010), It Now Powers Over 1.8 Million Blogs. Wordpress Is Another Publishing Platform Which Hosts As Many As 68 Million Blog Sites. (Wordpress, 2013)
