Children usually face problems with their parents. These problems are of different nature and often lead to numerous conflicts. When “adult children” receive a certain amount of freedom, it is appreciated by them as something long-expected and hard-won.

“Adult children” lose the need, and some of them both the need and desire, for parental approval at this stage. As a result, they feel independence. However, there may be two possible ways of how to use this independence. For example, a person decides to set up a party. He/she can invite friends, make a thematic competition or quiz, rule a dress code, and prove him-/herself that he/she is adult enough not to ask for parental approval and to take personal responsibility. On the other hand, after receiving long-desired freedom a person can invite to a party half of a town, bring spirits or even light drugs. The crowd is uncontrolled in such situations. Aftereffects are usually unpredictable and, as a rule, negative and harmful.

The loss of the need for parental approval may sometimes lead to an emotional lift. Nevertheless, emotions may engulf a person. It is necessary to add rational elements and to mix them together with emotions. One more important observation touches upon those people who feel embarrassed to ask for parental approval when they already do not need to do it. As a matter of fact, there is nothing to shame. More than that, parents’ advice may give considerable support to a child of any age.
