Working with Children and Families in a Diverse World

Today's society is diverse and manifold. For children to adjust or to live the life in a certain way, it is necessary to have a support and guidance of their family. The experience of learning and discovering is precious, that is why I feel a strong satisfaction after completing the Working with Children and Families in a Diverse World course. The educational program and reading materials revealed to me the most interesting and specific aspects of finding an approach to children and families, in order to provide the understanding and recommendation. This class had several assignments that required critical thinking and analytical skills, that helped to realize and reflect certain issues and the ways of dealing with them. The developmental theories, that are studied through the course, are a key point to describe the complications of the constructivist approach to support and maintain families and their children. Cultural, social, ethnic differences form a background for various principles, beliefs, and values. It may be difficult and confusing for some children or family members to deal with issues of being distinct. Exactly during this course, the main attention was concentrated on how to consider the peculiarities and make the decisions to meet the best needs of the children. As I learned in class, it is vitally important to pay attention to tolerance and liberality, patience and understanding, respect and consideration. Towards the learning process, I realized the complications of the decision-making process, but it also taught me to be attentive, unbiased, concentrated, and responsible. Teamwork is a great contribution to a successful process. It does not only mean a student teamwork, by discussing various problems in the class. It, also, concerns the teamwork in working with children and family, when everyone accepts the importance of the cooperation and interplay. In the family, it is necessary to support each other in their growth and be there in a case of a failure. The skill that I acquired during this program is leadership. I learned how to express the interests of the group and help them to decide what is better for them. I am willing to be successful professional and support families and children in their struggle with problems and support them in the respect for personality and individuality.
