Business Analysis of Micron Technology Operational Aspects
Introduction
Micron Technologies is made up of an organizational structure that services three major operational aspects; Manufacturing Operations, Supply Chain Management and Quality Assurance. The vitality of the three is seen in how the company performs in the annual fiscal analyses. Operations
According to the book, operations are the activities that enable the production of goods and services as per Micron’s organizational administrative and production activities. While it involves the processes in goods and services, Micron supports manufacturing-based operations; those for product productions only. There is a significant difference between operations and manufacturing, however, at Micron, the two are combined to create a system that optimizes product performance, thus giving the customers better service in storage and IT capacities. Manufacturing operations at Micron are headed by a production operation manager and maintained by the company’s environmental compliance through government issues regulations. All subsequent operations do ensure that the company maintains an environmental flow in product production easily availed by raw materials that meet Micron’s manufacturing standards. According to the 2015 Form 10-K, the success of Micron’s manufacturing operations relies on minimal defects in the production process thus maximizing on the output of premium circuits.
Supply Chain Management
Supply chain management involves linking and integrating producers, marketers, distributers in the distribution system to reach the target consumer. This operational aspect involves handling of logistics, acquiring raw materials and distributing the finished products till they reach the clients. Micron conducts supply chain management with utmost integrity and professionalism as stipulated under the Electronics Industry Citizenship Coalition (EICC). Micron and its suppliers ensure that the EICC Code of Conduct is adhered to for responsible, ethical and environmental practices.
Supply Chain Management at Micron is monitored under Micron’s Vice President of Procurement and Supply Chain, Mr. John Waite who through letters to suppliers appreciates suppliers’ partnership in ensuring that Micron’s customers get the best products. However as per the 10-K 2015 report, Micron could face a major challenge in the supply chain from the acquisition of raw materials from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Micron risks having minimal raw materials’ supply if the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010 is to be implemented in the U.S Securities and Exchange Commission regulations.
