Child Observation Book

Introduction

The following paper is devoted to the description of child observation project I conducted. Anna, a 4-year old girl I observed, is highly talented and all-around developed child. He looks like a future leader, being friendly and easy-going. Anna was always ready to answer the interviewer’s questions, which has greatly contributed to the observation. The project was carried out under the supervision of Anna’s parents, who agreed to give permission to it. Daniel comes from the multicultural family as his grandparents from mother’s side come from Poland, whereas two of the parents were born in the United States. His parents want to teach him respect for other cultures as they believe it would help him find friends everywhere.

Settings

The preferred setting for the observation was an early education center, where the observer could also analyze the activities the child likes as well as the way he communicates with other children. She likes to be an active member of a team, a girl loves to play ball games as well as any other activity requiring movement and communication. However, she objects being interrupted or stopped in the middle of the play.

In a larger environment, Anna’s role can be described as supportive. She is a team player, who always stays for the weaker children or for the newcomers. She actively tries to involve more children in the play. Nevertheless, sometimes she forgets to explain the rules of the game and gets nervous if some children are not willing to participate. I have a supervisory role in the environment of an early education center, helping children to understand the rules of the activities. Sometimes I also teach the classes, aimed at boosting cognitive and intellectual development of a child such as memory, concentration, and critical thinking. As Anna knows me as an employee of the center, she might sometimes come to greet me and does not need to adjust her behavior in my presence. She appears to be eager to learn, but, at the same time, gets easily distracted by other children and often wants to switch the type of …
