The Dollhouse Science Fiction TV Show
Dollhouse is a science fiction show that focuses on the exploration of morality when a particular science technology is used. The dolls are volunteers and their purpose is providing a particular service to the society through the fulfillment of the people’s deepest needs, instead of their own personal desires (Levin 1). One gets to see that as the series moves on that the use of technology is used as a tool in order to be able to control people. There are ways in which the use of technology has been portrayed in the series as being helpful. In one particular episode, the Echo is imprinted as Susan 2.0 to help a child called Susan who was sexually abused and even was sold into the prostitution world, to help her to be able to live and cope past her abuse (Wheldon).
In another episode, Echo is imprinted to a woman as mother, and she even begins to lactate despite not having a baby. This convinces the scientists that if technology is used in the right manner, it can be used to convince the body to fight off diseases such as Cancer and AIDS. In the end, the good values that could have been incorporated into the series are not used because, as this is an advanced form of technology, it corrupts the minds of people because of its great power (Wheldon). Based on the fact that one can imprint an individual with a certain idea, ensures that one has complete control over the individual and can be able to manipulate him or her.
One is able to have a god-like control over an individual. This is similar to the TV series Serenity in that; one is able to control another individual to perform the duties that one desires. In Serenity, Rivers Tam has been conditioned by the Alliance scientists to be an assassin. The Alliance sought to control everyone using their technology (DeCandido).
