How Effective Is Community Supervision
Modern society is totally placed under supervision. The system of laws and different rules installed certain life rhythm of the human population. This aspect is applied to all segments of society. However, how effective is community supervision?
In a broadly sense, community supervision is the process of the observations under offenders „who cannot and/or will not comply with the sanctions imposed by the court will not re-offend“. From this point of view, the community supervision must be an effective instrument in reducing of number of crimes. The main target of it is to lower probability of breaking the law by the offenders. Generally, it is possible to state that community supervision can be connected to the theory of “Broken Windows”.
It creates favorable environment not to conduct the crime. However, is this instrument as effective as it might be seen? The problem of community supervision lies in the idea that completely all offenders cannot be supervised properly. In this case, the opportunity that someone of them will conduct the crime still exists. The lack of resources and human factor declines effectiveness of the community supervision. Thus wise, it is important to remember that this instrument should be applied with other methods of reducing of criminalization of society.
