Intimate Partner Violence
Physical and emotional violence among couples is a dominant issue in the modern generation. Intimate partner violence commonly known as domestic violence involves physical abuse such, as battering, sexual assault where a person for his/her partner in sexual acts and psychological abuse that include verbal criticism and humiliation (Catalano, 2012). Unfortunately, victims of these issues do not take control measures since they are forced to remain silent; they always apply the make peace theory where the partner promises to change the abusive behavior (Gosselin, 2013). Sadly, after a few days, the victim returns to his usual routine, and the sequence continues until the situation becomes unsafe for them causing home accidents and even death.
Some of the reasons abused victims do not leave their unstable relationships include death threats especially when they propose separation hence end up trapped in fear of the extremes the partner can commit.,
Moreover, for those who are so deep in the relationship and have children, they distress over their future, and how their parent's violent state can affect their development socially and cognitively (Adams, Tolman, &
Kennedy, 2012). However, they contemplate on the difficulties associated with being a single parent and opt to stay in the solace that they need to offer those children a complete family. Others lack financial stability to
support their livelihood hence forced to depend on the abuser to provide even for basic needs to avoid homelessness and hunger (Gosselin, 2013).
In addition, other reasons that cause victims to persevere brutal treatment include lack of emotional support from close friends and relatives; furthermore, victims need professional help from domestic violence resources to enable them to make sound decisions (Catalano, 2012).
In conclusion, attachment to a partner allows the other party to endure abuse with the hope that the spouse will eventually change because of the fake remorseful attitude exhibited after every violent experience. Ultimately, this feeling of hopelessness triggers mental disorders among most victims that lead to critical actions such as suicide.
