Medical Terminologies: Integumentary System
The skin together with other accessories such as nails, hair and the gland are what makes up the integumentary system. The integumentary system produces secretions and has nerve system that transmits the impulses to the brain apart in addition to the blood vessels that take care of the body temperatures. The skin is the largest body system since it protects the entire body surfaces apart from acting as the sensory organ of touch. Under this system, there are key terms that can be defined to help the reader have an insight of the whole process that the system goes through before executing its functions. Androgen is the first term which refers to the hormones such as teresteron which takes part in the development of the male characteristics (Gylys, & Wedding, n.d.). Besides, androgen controls the production of sebum. Another biological term that falls under this system is ductile that are used for as passages for different substances. Another key terminology here is homeostasis. Homeostasis refers to the condition in which the body maintains tolerable body temperatures regardless of the instability in the weather conditions (Taber, & Thomas, 1993). Synthesis, on the other hand, refers to the process of forming compound substances with the use simpler compound element. For example, the skin synthesizes vitamin D from the sun hence making it possible for the formation of strong teeth and bones that maintain the body shape. The human body has an upper layer of the skin called the epidermis. The epidermis has three sub-layers which include the strata, the stratum corneum, and the basal layer. The epidermis layer has the coloration pigment called melanin. The melanin aids in producing the coloring segment to the skin. An individual with less or no melanin suffers a blow of being albinism. The melanin has the ability to prevent the entrance of ultraviolet rays.
The cardiovascular system refers to the heart together with the blood vessels. The pumping of the heart makes it possible for the survival of individuals. Blood from the heart is pumped by the expansion and contraction of the muscles of the heart through the pulmonary artery. On the other hand, the blood enters the heart from the body through the pulmonary veins. The cardiovascular system is supported by the presence of capillaries and the venules.
