Introduction

Compensation programs and performance appraisal programs are the two aspects of human resource management, which play the most significant role in the organizational business activity. Improving the performance of employees may result into improving the performance of the whole company. In order to imagine perfect compensation and performance appraisal programs, the concept of a dream job was developed in this paper. Effective compensation and performance appraisal programs cannot exist separately; companies should improve both of them at the same time to gain human capital advantage.

Job Description

Job title: Financial manager

Financial manager within Company X, a big multinational company specializing in luxury (haute couture/ready-to-wear) clothes, is responsible for sales and expenses analysis and accounting. The key responsibilities include:

Financial statements (Balance Sheet; Income Statement; Cash Flow Statement) preparation on a monthly/quarterly/yearly basis;

Analysis of sales (data regarding the number of customers, share of each customer in total sales, the quantity of units sold, share of each geographical region covered in total sales, price analysis on a monthly/quarterly/yearly basis) and cost of goods sold;

Annual budget preparation; variance analysis of actual versus budgeted costs;

Control over implementation of finance and budget internal procedures.

The basic requirements for this position involve an outstanding academic record and professional experience not less than 2 years (finance sector). Good knowledge of accounting and MS Excel/SAP is desirable; any professional qualifications (e.g. ACCA or CFA) in progress will be an advantage. Personal characteristics that are necessary for the position: analytical mindset, good team player, excellent communication skills, high level of enthusiasm and drive. Financial manager works in the US most of the time; however, business trips to France are possible and happen at least once a month. Therefore, the candidate should be bilingual (speaking English and French) and ready to travel to Paris and South of France. Company offices are comfortable and well-equipped; moreover, they are located in the city center. There are 300 employees in the US; 35 of them work in the finance department. All the employees are highly motivated young professionals and they love what they do; teambuilding events are not rare. Financial manager can build a dream career within the company, as they can grow both horizontally and vertically (Head of Department) in the US or France, depending on their plans and aspirations.
