Pablo Picasso is an iconic person in Spanish Art. The famous painter, sculptor, graphic artist, ceramist, and designer worked in different styles and was a leader of cubism and had a significant impact on the development of post-impressionism and surrealism. He is also known as one of the most productive with over 20000 different artworks created. In addition, his paint jobs are extremely popular among judges of art that are setting records on different auctions, buying his paintings. For example, according to Hickey, one of the paintings from Les Femmes d'Alger (Women of Algiers) series was sold in 2015 for $ 179 million. Pablo Picasso is definitely one of the most successful artists of the 20th century. To understand this popularity and his contribution to the development of art around the globe it is important to analyze his biography, inspiration and key milestones of his artistic career.
According to Charles, Pablo Picasso was born in 1881 in Spanish southern cultural center, Malaga. According to the regional traditions, his full name was a combination of his father’s and mother’s full names to honor all relatives, so the artist’s full name is Pablo Diego Jose Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de Los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Martir Patricio Ruiz y Picasso, but for practical reasons he is known as Pablo Picasso. Starting from his childhood, the future painter was quite an artistic infant, so his parents tried to instill him a sense of beauty. His father was also a painter, so he taught art basics for young Pablo. At 8 years old Pablo created his first oil painting “Picador” that become his artistic debut. In 1891 his family moved to La Coruna, where Picasso attended the local school of Arts. Later his family moved to Barcelona, and in 1895, Picasso entered the La Lonja School of Fine Arts. Despite his young age, he was exceptionally allowed to pass exams. At the beginning, he signed his works with another surname, but in La Lonja he started to sign painting with Picasso signature. Being a very promising student, in 1897 Pablo moved to the capital city Madrid and entered the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando. Picasso found traditional study quite boring, so he visited Prado museum quite often to find an inspiration. In 1898 he returned to Barcelona and joined the art society, later in 1900 he organized his own exhibitions. Picasso was a very emotion person, so his early career divided into several categories, as Blue Period (1901–1904), the Rose Period (1904–1906), the African-influenced Period (1907–1909), Analytic Cubism (1909–1912), and Synthetic Cubism (1912–1919).
With the lack of motivation, Pablo Picasso became interested in surrealism and was able to surprise even the quite original surrealists. Without any doubt, Pablo Picasso was a pacifist, so one of his most famous artworks, Guernica was his reaction to the anti-democratic political regime in Spain and the possibility of massive armed conflict in Europe.
