Paris Shootout Leaves Police Officer and Gunman Dead
On April 20th, a gunman brandishing an AK-47 rifle had allegedly killed a prosecutor in Paris’s famous 8th Arrondissement Avenue- Champs Élysées. The attack shortly declared as another ISIS activity has stirred worst fears in Paris, as the time marked a beginning to the Presidential campaign which commences on 23rd April, 2017. While trying to flee, the gunman was shot dead by another prosecutor. The incident had wounded a bystander as well as 2 other police men (Alissa J. Rubin, 2017). The attack took place, while 11 candidates contesting in the presidential election appeared on the television.
An Islamic state had asserted their liability for the attack with a message on their own Jihadi Channel. As a state of emergency from the year 2015, France had been a witness to a plethora of fatal attacks since the last couple of years. Last year in July, an attacker had perniciously killed over 80 people at the time of celebration on Bastille Day before he was finally shot down by a prosecutor.
In an isolated incident, early this week, French authorities have arrested 2 men suspecting a critical attack in Marseille prior to the election. Francois Hollande, the president of France had expressed his condolences for the lost police officer and assured the citizens for a secured as well as a safe election campaign.
As a social process, a Terrorism resembles a groups of people collaborating to form associations in order to define social realities (discrimination, poverty etc.) and taking actions based on it, driven by a bounded reality (White, 2012). The ISIS terrorist association mentioned in the above attack, is born in Islamic states, a majority of which is characterized by poverty and discrimination in terms of their Islam religion. Triggering violent actions as a reflection of a Psychological interpretation, a terrorist activity often happens in situations where violence is least expected for example Champs Élysées which epitomizes as a popular destination in world tourism. Terrorism can be explicated with the Merton’s strain theory, by virtue of which, the kinds of deviance relies on the fact that whether or not a society ensures people to accomplish their cultural goals, where deviance takes in when there is a failure to do this. The deviance ruled in the Paris attack is of a “rebellion” type against the political jurisdiction of France by the Islam terrorists.
