Personal Code of Ethics
As a student, and a possible future leader, I have a personal code of ethics that define me and my character. The personal ethics are essential in a person’s day to day living, defining one’s principles and in determining the way one relate with people surrounding himself or herself with (Rebore 121). Growing up with my parents who ensured I grow with the best character and through all levels I have passed through in education, my personal code of ethics are; fairness, honesty, responsibility, integrity, respect of others, loyalty and a concern of others. In the day to day to life there are circumstances that I have gone through and I feel that my personal code of ethics have been tested, re-examined, challenged and revised through different instances.
For instance, Jeanne has been my friend from childhood, we were brought up in the same environment and almost with the same values such as friendship, helpfulness, love, honesty, openness and kindness. The
values have been a major contributor to my core values in my personal code of ethics. At one time Jeanne started skipping class sessions. I noticed with a lot of concern and I realized something was amiss when almost two weeks elapsed without her presence in the class. I had to look for her and get to know the reason behind her failure of attendance. I bumped with her in the school compound, at first she was hesitant to talk to me but after
insisting she agreed and we had a conversation. She opened up to me and she told me she had lost interest in studies and she could not take it anymore, she felt she needed to do something else but she was not sure what it was. She told me she had to come to school and hang around so that her parents could assume all is well with her studies. I tried to put sense to her on importance of finishing her studies and later she can pursue what she
needed after school. I promised to be with her and encourage her. She me not to tell anyone especially her parents on her missing of her classes, of which I promised I will.
Unfortunately in the course of the week I bumped with her mother. After catching up she said she had noticed some changes with Jeanne and she had noticed that she never had study time while at home. She asked me if I
knew anything that could be bothering her. I had to speak of Jeanne’s situation and also told her of the conversation we had. I broke the promise I had for Jeanne! I had to look for her and explain to her my earlier
concerns. At first she was mad but I assured her by her mother knowing it all she will be able to talk …
