Major components of the strategic management

Publix Company is my employer chosen for the analysis. According to Thompson and Martin (2010) strategic management process is begun with the evaluation of the internal and external environment of the company. Further, strategy is formulated and implemented. It is essential to evaluate the chosen strategy as the last step in strategic management process.

By understanding the tough competition at the retail market of food, Publix invests in delivering unique experience for its customers. Publix is such proud about the choice of products and control over their quality, that there is a guarantee to each customer: if a customer will not be satisfied with the quality of any product, the company will refund. Publix builds its strategy to create a place which special elements such as the smell of fresh bread, smiling and always ready to help and answer any questions associates, welcoming and friendly atmosphere will differentiate Publix from rivals and form unique shopping experience. Customer service is in the center of Publix long-term development. The simplest but toughest to achieve details are in the core of its strategy: exceptional products quality, clean and pleasant stores, knowledgeable, well-trained, efficient employees. Product choice, workforce, supplier, community relationships diversity is in the centre of its business.

Value for the organization

By putting customers’ interests and opinions first, Publix puts all its efforts to improve the level of its products quality. In 2016 Publix possessed the third place on the Harris Poll Reputation Quotient Study, starting from 2014 Publix is included in the list of US favorite supermarkets according to Marketforce.com. The company is the leader in Temkin Customer Experience Ratings, is ranked third for customer loyalty and ranked second for customer service in 2016. Moreover, according to the Publix Official Website (2017), in 2015 the company received the Safe Quality Foods Achievement Award for Manufacturer of the Year, in 2012 Philanthropic Engagement and Community Impact of Publix was admitted by United Way Summit Awards.

Publix is committed to the diversity: not only the respect for individuality, physical differences, but due to the different mindsets of its employees, their unique perspectives and the fresh ideas. It is a goal of Publix to be the comfortable place to work for employees with various cultures and abilities. It is the clear indication that a strategy to be the retailer of premier quality food is carefully developed, implemented, controlled and needed timely actions are taken to improve the experience of the customers.
