Commencement Speech at Graduation
I have a dream (King & Washington, 2005) that you all will stay as hungry and foolish as you can till the end of your life. I guess, you all noted the references I made to the two outstanding speakers. I want you to know that I did it intentionally. You see, when I sat down to finally start working on this speech, I thought that it would be an easy task to do. What can be less difficult than sharing your own experience in front of hundreds of young adults? Anyway, as you can assume, it was slightly more difficult than I thought. At first, I stared as the blank paper for a while. When I realized I could not come up with something worth sharing, I decided to make some coffee in hopes that it would give me some inspiration. Three cups of coffee after, I was still staring at the blank paper. I repeated this routine for several days in a row until I realized that there was not much time left till your graduation day, so I had to start working faster. The smartest thing I came up with was to look for some great commencement speeches on YouTube, and it actually gave me the inspiration I was hoping to find. You may be wondering now why I keep telling you all these worthless stories, but in reality they are not that worthless.
The first life lesson that I am going to share with you is something I found out during my research. So remember, life lesson number one: it turns out that the best way to learn something new is to find out how people did it before you. You have finished your education, and I congratulate you with this. However, your learning will never end. If you want to remain a valuable of society, if you want to have reasons to be proud of yourself, if you simply want to keep your curious minds working, you will have to never stop learning. You are lucky to live in this world and in these times because you can find almost anything on the Internet nowadays. If you do not know how to pay your taxes, build a house, write a song, you should simply google it, and there will be millions of instructions. Use this opportunity, you will never regret it. Please, do not give up if you did not get something from the first try. Keep trying, keep learning, and you will get the life you want.
Life lesson number two: never take anything for granted and never judge other people by what they have and have not achieved. If you were born in a happy family with loving and caring parents, I am truly happy for you. If you are a perfect student and have never received any grade that was lower than B simply because you love studying, I happy for you, too. What I want you to remember …
