• First Amendment to the US Constitution is a set of fundamental rights which are of crucial importance for every American, including those who serve a term in prisons.
• This freedom is key for prisoners since being deprived of freedom to move, to choose occupation, place of residence etc, they are still entitled to pray.
• The Supreme Court of the US upheld the constitutionality of the providing that the special arrangement were to be made in order to meet the religious needs of the prisoners emphasizing once more upon significance of this right for the persons who are deprived of freedom.
• The prohibition of unreasonable searches provided by the Fourth Amendment protects both individuals and groups from arbitrary searches and the abuse of powers.
• The right to a due trial process ensures that all citizens can be tried in accordance with the word of law. The right to free assembly also ensures the freedom of a group to gather together with the purpose of protecting their rights and lobbying their interests.
• According to Eighth Amendment the cruel or unusual treatment of the person is strictly prohibited.
• Wrongful conviction is, in fact, illegal imprisonment of the person as she or he has been jailed with no legal reason. The people who have been wrongfully convicted are entitled to certain monetary compensation.
• Probation is a type of punishment when the offender is placed under the supervision of police officer instead of serving term in jail.
• During the time of probation the offenders should regularly report to the supervisor and stay away from any kind of criminal activities. They are also prohibited to carry guns and they could be allowed to work.
