Employer of Choice

To be recognized as one of the best places to work and to be considered an Employer of Choice (EOC) is a great achievement for companies. This positive renown is an advantage for attracting the best candidates and for keeping them in the company, because it can reduce the turnover time and costs, which helps in sustainability and growth. It is difficult to point out disadvantages, because even if EOC policies and practices are sometimes viewed as a big spending, it can pay off in the long run. This paper is about DELTA Resources and Intuitive Research and Technology Corporation in terms of Employer of Choice.

DELTA Resources, with corporate headquarters in Alexandria, VA, provides technical expertise and operational support to government partners and commercial customers. Intuitive Research and Technology Corporation, with corporate headquarters in Huntsville, AL, provides performance driven engineering services. DELTA is a company focused on national defense and its website reflects that relationship with the army and navy, while Intuitive Research and Technology seems to be opened to do business with a wider clients list across the country. Both companies have approximately the same number of employees: around 300.

In the “Great Place to Work” website it is said that 99% of Intuitive Research and Technology employees say “I’m proud to tell others I work here”. Other awards that Intuitive Research and Technology is proud to have is “#1 Best Workplace to Retire From”, “#1 in the Nation as Best Place to Work for Millennials”, #7 on the Best for Vets”. This shows how their employees are diversified and the workplace welcoming, it is really an equal opportunity employer.

For instance: one important thing that employees look for in a company and when the company have it helps to be an EOC is a structured career development program. In the DELTA Resources website, the DELTA Career Development Plan (DCDP) is explained as a tool for career development and progression. “DELTA managers support employee development through goal-setting, training, mentoring, and evaluation”. Intuitive Research and Technology could learn from it and offers something similar, if it does not have it yet.

Regarding retirement, Intuitive Research and Technology matches 100% of the …
