The current paper will compare and contrast Toyota and Ford companies with the use of relevant operations management theory and concepts, empirical research literature plus non-academic business resources to address the topic. There will be provided a brief descriptive profile of both Toyota and Ford companies. Background
June 16, 1903, a young American engineer Henry Ford, with the support of a group of financiers, founded his own automobile company Ford Motor Company, which has become one of the largest in the world. The main aim of the inventor was the transformation of a luxury car in the essentials. Initially, the company was engaged in the production of Ford vehicles with two-, four- and six-cylinder engines. There were released seven models: A, B, C, F, K, N, R. The company, which produces cars under the brand Ford, is now the world’s fourth largest car manufacturer in terms of production for the whole period of existence. Toyota Motor Corporation is not only the most successful carmaker in the country, but, for many years in a row, holds the position of the world’s largest automotive group. For more than 80 years, the company successfully operates in more than 160 countries. However, there is given the relatively late entry into international markets, Toyota is still considered by many experts as the “Achilles heel” corporation.
