Telemedicine Research
Why The Topic?
Telemedicine has been practiced for almost half a decade in the US, following reports by the American Health Association (2015). As the percentage of patients suffering from Chronic Respiratory Diseases is on the rise, the effectiveness of this service is vital. The idea of telemonitoring the patient's symptom behavior on a daily basis is quite motivating for the patients. The topic of effectiveness has not been well established when it comes to reports since not so many researchers have focused on this sector. Hence, this research seeks to provide information on outcomes of using telehealth services on patients with chronic respiratory conditions stressing on financial benefits and care. However, research on the outcome results when it comes to access to primary care for chronic respiratory patients show there is improved care due to an evaluation of patients. However, when it comes to research on financial benefits, there is no consensus hence, no endpoint (Smith et al., 2009). Once the quantitative results of financial benefits have been established the cost-effectiveness of application of telehealth on chronic respiratory patients, then we can agree on the economic benefits. This would open doors for more interventions supporting the use of telemedicine in patients with chronic respiratory conditions. The topic is important since it seeks to answer reasons as to why delivery of health care to chronic respiratory patients is quite expensive as compared to the usual method of treatment.
Furthermore, there are some barriers influencing the delivery of telehealth services generally among patients as well as chronic respiratory patients. This topic explores various barriers of implementing telemedicine services equitably amongst patients with chronic respiratory conditions in the US. This is important since providers can major on their strengths as they know their failures and find ways to rectify. This requires research in the gaps of telemedicine application, and this thesis provides significant information.
Application to Real Life
Telemedicine in has proven to provide real insight into our lives by utilizing technology such as smartphones and sensors. The widespread use of telehealth in hospitals in the US has increased the number of individuals using these services. The topic is significant since patients with chronic respiratory diseases are motivated to access health care without making the long queues at the hospital. This initiates the behavior of long-term activity behavior amongst these patients. The thesis is significant since in real life situation every patient needs to know be aware of their daily activity behavior in actual measurements and this would automatically reflect on the effectiveness of telemedicine. The health professionals, therefore, should practice insights for providing feedback to improve the outcomes of current telehealth services.
The topic is significant since it seeks to answer questions as to why there has been an increase in mortality rate of individuals in the US since deaths of chronic respiratory patients is a contributing factor (Pramar et al., 2014).
