The Work Ethic
The work ethic is a complex mixture of various constituents and the factors, including social, cultural and communicational. In order to study and analyse work ethic and the different approaches, it is necessary to show sufficient adherence to the norms, standards, values and the morals. It is important to understand the motivation behind the work ethic and the foundation it has.
It is the team building, the communicational and social aspects that form the interpersonal relation and the working environment. Choosing the positive elements, when approaching social and work interactions is crucial. In my opinion, it is necessary to serve as an example for respect instead of being a figure that fills individual with a sense of fear and apprehension. Fear is a way of destruction and tension, while respect is a something a person earns daily by good examples and the right attitude, mutually beneficial efforts and care. I believe that being respected calls up for responsibility among colleagues and the entire team. When an individual fears a manager, the communicational constituent is built upon apprehension and the negative emotions which creates the unhealthy environment and violates work ethics, justice and equality of decisions being made. Choosing being respected, I strive for the hard work and personal development which will serve as an example for my colleagues and will help me become a better person, using my skills and experiences for the common good. I did not choose being feared because it destroys the personal factor and creates unnecessary pressure and the violence in communication and damages the work ethics and environment.
Work ethics, in my opinion, can be defined as adherence to equal and just conditions of work, social and personal responsibilities, strong morals, hardworking and constant development of personality, sharing knowledge and skills with the other members of the team. In order to demonstrate my work ethic, I shall give an example of sharing my knowledge with my colleagues and working as a coach for the newcomers to let them accommodate to the conditions of work and the standards. Serving as an example, I share my experiences and work out the most efficient methods of work and application of my knowledge. It helps keep the team spirit and let everyone feel equal and important. It is the benefit of each person that makes the teamwork.
One area of work ethic that could be improved is related to keeping up with the time schedule. I have to learn to take one step at a time and avoid being involved in too many tasks at once. In order to improve my work ethic in this particular area, I am going to make an outline of my plans and the tasks for the short periods of time and try to meet the deadlines without tension and unnecessary fuss.
