McGraw-Hill also takes advantage of technology to accomplish its objective. Aside from working with experts, the company focuses on taking advantage of technology to improve its products and delivery of services. McGraw-Hill’s reliance on technology is evident in the company’s growth and development over the years. James H. McGraw, a school teacher, founded the company in 1888. In 1917, McGraw and Hill entered a merger, thereby forming the McGraw-Hill Publishing Company, Inc. From the 1930s until the 1950s, McGraw-Hill collaborated with other publishers to publish educational content and later on to address the needs post-World War II.
McGraw-Hill worked on expanding its service by initially focusing on developing content for primary and secondary schools. Later on, the company added content for colleges or universities. The company also expanded geographically with its acquisition of the Tata Group in India. In 1989, years after the invention of the computer, McGraw-Hill began using a computerized publishing system (PRIMIS). The PRIMIS helped educators align their curricula with textbook content. Apart from adopting digital technologies, McGraw-Hill also sought to improve its services by considering advancements and trends in education. In 2006, McGraw-Hill launched the Acuity suite that would help educators conduct formative assessment online. McGraw-Hill followed this up with the development of an online assessment platform with language that may be translated in other countries.
