Professional Summary of a Nurse
Being a student at Western Governors University Bachelors of Science in nursing program has opened my eyes to several problems, which influence current nursing practice, as well as the entire healthcare system. The work experience stated in my portfolio proofs that my studies prepared me to work in any healthcare system institutions like hospitals, clinics, community centers or home care as a bachelor-educated nurse. I am grateful to Western Governors University for a carefully planned curriculum, which allowed me to become competent in various fields of study, such as professional nursing and quality of care, patient safety, nursing research, evidence base practice, applied leadership and community health. The examples of my artifacts listed in the portfolio are the proof of my knowledge in current nursing practice problems, as well as my ability to solve these problems as a bachelor-educated nurse.My portfolio contains a copy of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Certificate of Completion.
The advantages of the Evidence-based Practice and Applied Nursing Research Course provided me with the skills of the conscientious use of present time best information indicators for making good decisions and providing good patient care. The Applied Leadership and Importance of interdisciplinary cooperation are required to produce good patient care, which is the most important aspect of a nurse in a leadership position. My Professional Roles and Values course abstract focuses on my professional mission statement and the way in which I will conduct my nursing career. My Community and Population Health Course abstract focuses on the ways in which food deserts affect the health of the poorest communities in the city of Tampa, and finding solutions for these problems.The attached “Significance of having the American Museum of Natural History Certificate”, is a brief summary that describes the value of having the AMNH certificate for my nursing professional career. I acquired a certificate from the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) about Genetics and Genomics.
During the Evidence-based Practice and Applied Nursing Research course, I researched the quality of life in the dementia patients; this is one of my artifacts listed in my portfolio. My Leadership learning initiative was focused on teen pregnancy. My paper was designed to draw public attention to the problem of teen pregnancy and to suggest the ways to solve this problem. The City of Tampa, Florida assessment is a sample of my project in the Community and Population Health course. I have discovered that the city of Tampa is a growing city with a large homeless population and food deserts in the poorest communities. I experienced two main challenges while getting through the BSN program at WGU. The first one was associated with poor computer skills. I overcame this challenge by attending free basic computer literacy course at my job.
